The Provincial Government - Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) culminates Environment Month by recognizing Cleanest, Safest, and Greenest Local Government Unit (LGU) in the province for CY 2021.

Happened on June 30, 2022 at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union, the said culminating activity was attended by representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 1 and Component LGUs.

After a series of site validation and document evaluation from March 1, 2022 to April 20, 2022, the Provincial Search Committee (PSC)has identified which LGU stepped up in their respective Environmental Protection and Preservation Programs as their way of supporting the Provincial Governmentโ€™s #KalikasanNaman campaign

For the Cleanest, Safest, and Greenest LGU, municipalities were categorized into two, 1st to 3rd Class LGU Category and 4th and 5th Class LGU Category. For the first category, Nagullian bagged the first place followed by Bacnotan and Agoo, respectively. On the other hand, Sto. Tomas bested the 4th and 5th Class LGU Category while Burgos won the second place. Santol and Caba tied in third place.

For the Coastal Category, Balaoanโ€™s Immuki Island was awarded as the best municipal body of water while second place and third place was awarded to San Juan Surfing Area and Cabaโ€™s San Carlos Coastal Area.
Bagulinโ€™s Bulalakaw Falls, Bacnotanโ€™s Baroro River and Tapuakan River in Pugo were identified as the top three winners for the Fresh Water Category.

Meanwhile, a special citation award was accorded to Kasay Marine Protected Area located in the City of San Fernando.

Magsidalus iti Arubayan Implementers were also recognized during the said activity. Barangay Ubagan, Sto. Tomas; Barangay Up-uplas, Sudipen; and Barangay Narra, Bacnotan were the best three in Rural Category. For Urban Category, first place was bagged by Barangay Quirino, Bacnotan; second place went to Barangay Gana, Caba; while third place was accorded to Barangay San Nicolas East, Agoo.

The Provincial Government of La Union hopes that through the said activity, its #KalikasanNaman Campaign continues to intensify as it serves as the Provinceโ€™s response to the call for immediate and sustainable action for our nature.
