In observance of the International Day of the Forest which is celebrated every March 21 of the year, the Provincial Government - Environment and Natural Resources Office together with the Environmental Management Coordinators (EMCs) of La Union conducted the 1st Quarter EMC Meeting Cum Trainingโ€ activity on March 21, 2022 at Damortis Provincial Nursery, Sto. Tomas, La Union. Celebrated with the theme "Forests and Sustainable Production and Consumptionโ€, IDF aims to increase awareness about how forests play in sustaining lives on earth.

The 1st Quarter EMC Meeting Cum Training activity served as an avenue for the PG-ENRO to discuss different environmental issues and concerns. Further, to contribute towards the IDF theme, Tree Surgery as forest-based innovation was done to capacitate EMCs on the control measure of wood decay primarily due to harmful pests and diseases attacking the trees thereby prolonging the life and bringing back the beauty of the tree. EMCs were able to perform actual tree surgery training using fruit trees such as Tamarind and Star Apple.

Trees are vital to sustain the health of our ecosystem. They constitute the best cover of the land, hence PG-ENRO urges the kaprobinsiaan to jopin in their advocacy in saving and healing trees through Tree surgery. #kalikasanNaman
