With the aim to provide livelihood for women, the Provincial Government of La Union through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office spearheaded the livelihood skills training on Longganisa Making for the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) - La Union Chapter on June 30, 2018 at the La Union Technology and Livelihood Development Center, Guerrero Road, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The said one-day training was attended by 70 KALIPI members who had an actual hands-on training in the preparation and making of “LONGGANISA ALA KALIPI” style.
The Longganisa Ala Kalipi – La Union is distinctive from those from other places due to its size, taste, and most of all, because of its no preservatives and no food coloring added mixture.
The skills training also capacitated and equipped the KALIPI members with know- how on business management. It is considered as an alternative strategy in the improvement of the quality of life of the women members because the skills they learned can be a lifetime source for their livelihood.
In 2017, the KALIPI members have undergone the course on Enriched Modular Packages For Women where they were trained on how to source out additional income through livelihood and how to invest.
Longganisa is one of the staples for breakfast in any ordinary household, the most popular and most sought delicacy for Filipinos especially by young children. It is a delicacy which can be cooked in different ways; “MATUNO, MAILAMBONG ken MAPRITO”. It is easily prepared, and can be sold as a street food and an income generating through ambulant vending.
