WITH FIVE PEARLS, LA UNION SHINES IN ATOP-DOT PEARL AWARDS 2024

The Province of La Union bagged five pearls in the recently concluded 2024 Pearl Awards of the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines, Inc - Department of Tourism (ATOP-DOT), solidifying the province’s status as one of the country’s top tourism implementers. The event was held on October 10, 2024, at The Farm in Koronadal City, South Cotabato, centered on the theme "Tourism and Peace."
The province's annual event, the La Union Surfing Break, was honored as the Grand Winner for Best Sports Tourism (Province Level), demonstrating its ability to attract local and international participants while significantly boosting the local economy.
Additionally, the PGLU’s Green Tourism Enterprises Program received the Grand Winner award for Best Practices in Sustainable Tourism (Province Level), underscoring La Union's dedication to environmentally friendly initiatives and community involvement. The province also secured First Runner-up for the TOUR-tle – The Journey of the Flippers (Province Level), which emphasizes community-based tourism and the preservation of marine life and local culture.
The La Union Surfing Break was again recognized as First Runner-up for Best Event Hosting – Local (Province Level) for its exceptional organization and community impact, solidifying its status as a premier local tourism event. In the Best Tourism Promotions – Brochure category, the Love La Union Travel Guide earned Second Runner-up for effectively promoting the province's diverse attractions and encouraging visitors to explore its natural beauty.
The five awards were presented to Julius A. Manabat, Officer-in-charge of the La Union Provincial Tourism Office, along with the Tourism Operations Unit of LUPTO. Notably, Municipality of Bangar’s Abel: A Story of Tradition and Innovation also received recognition as Second Runner-up in the Best Souvenirs – Non-Food category.
The success of La Union’s tourism programs can be attributed to the strong leadership and unwavering support of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David. Her initiatives to promote tourism and sustainable practices have been vital in elevating the province's reputation in the national tourism landscape. Gov. Rafy’s focus on inclusive growth, environmental stewardship, and community-driven programs has empowered La Union to shine in the tourism industry.
