Per directive from Gov. Francisco Emmanuel "Pacoy" R. Ortega III, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) spearheaded the continuous repacking of relief goods with volunteers from different government and civil groups in La Union.
Volunteers included the Philippine Red Cross, Provincial General Services Office, Provincial Engineering Office, Philippine National Police, La Union Vibrant Riders, Riders On The Storm, Kabalikat, La Union Motoriders' Brotherhood Association, La Union Lifeguards, Balaoan Riders Club, Brgy. Sevilla Volunteers, Civil Society Organizations and Private Individuals.
Repacked relief goods are made ready for distribution to constituents affected by monsoon brought about by the low pressure area at the West Philippine Sea and typhoons Karding and Luping.
As of August 22, 2018, a total of 6,739 affected families from the municipalities of Luna, Bangar, San Gabriel, San Juan, Bacnotan, Bauang, Burgos, Bagulin, Santol, Naguilian and Caba were provided with relief goods and emergency family kits. Victims from the low-lying areas were mostly flooded while victims from mountainous areas experienced soil erosions and landslides that blocked the roads that hindered their access to basic needs at the town center.
Relief goods are stockpiled at the PSWDO readily available to victims of calamities.
