SPM Concepcion Hears Out Concerns of Local Pottery Makers

One of the pottery makers raised some concerns of the Mannamili Association of Taboc, San Juan during the dialogue consultation held at the People's Hall, Presidencia of San Juan, La Union on July 18, 2018.

To address the challenges being faced by the local pottery industry in the Municipality of San Juan, Board Member Carlo Castor U. Concepcion joined in a dialogue consultation dialogue with local pottery makers of Barangay Taboc at the People’s Hall of the Presidencia of San Juan, La Union on July 18, 2018.

The dialogue was organized to tackle the concerns of the Mannamili Association of Taboc, San Juan, La Union, an organization of pottery makers in La Union. This consultation is expected to bring about positive result in terms of tourism following the vision of Gov. Francisco Emmanuel "Pacoy" R. Ortega III for La Union to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.

Around 35 pottery makers and sellers attended the consultation. Some of the concerns tackled in the consultation were the skills upgrading and modernization of pottery equipment to increase the supply of clay products considering that there is a higher demand now than supply.

BM Concepcion assured the association that all their concerns will be properly addressed for the development of one of La Union’s valued tourist destination.

Also in attendance in said gathering were Sangguniang Bayan Member (SBM) and Committee on Trade, Commerce, Industry and Consumer Protection Chairperson of the Municipality of San Juan Reginald M. Nang, SBM Aldreick Carillo, SBM Manuel Bolong, Brgy. Captain Teofilo Cabiladas of Brgy. Taboc, Ms. Michelle De Jesus from Department of Trade and Industry, Dr. Gil Dela Vega of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, Mr. Aurelio Dayag Jr. and Ms. Marissa Galacgac from Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Pottery, one of the major livelihood in San Juan, is a traditional art of unglazed earthenware made using red clay.
