SP PUSHES FOR CCTV IN EVERY BARANGAY

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) reinforced its call to local leaders to deter and resolve crime, maintain peace order, security and protection during its Regular Session on May 17, 2018 at the Speaker Pro Tempore Francisco I. Ortega Legislative Building and Session Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The body enacted Resolution No. 230-2018, which urges all Local Chief Executives of the Municipality and City and all Punong Barangays of the province to invest heavily on the installation of high definition CCTV Cameras in every local corner of their territorial jurisdiction and make a priority program the purchase of communication equipment and to put up perimeter towers in their respective barangays. Likewise, enacted SP Resolution No. 231-2018, urges all barangay councils in the province to include in their annual investment plan, the development of efficient and effective communication system to include but not limited to the installation of high definition CCTV at the entrance and exit of all roads going to and going out of their barangays.

The SP believes that installing CCTV in every barangay is an effective tool in safeguarding the lives and properties of our constituents in the whole Province of La Union. It will not only prevent crimes, but it will also aid the barangays and law enforcers in the resolution of the same.

During the said session, SP Member Bellarmin A. Flores II requested the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to revisit the CCTV Ordinance of the province in order to study thoroughly the provisions and introduce necessary amendments to make it more effective and efficient. The said proposal was referred jointly to the Committee on Information Communication Technology, Committee on Peace and Order and Public Safety and Committee on Laws, Rules and Privileges.

The Province of La Union is known as the Most Peaceful and Orderly Province in the entire country. “By the grace of God, we shall not allow anyone to destroy peace and love in our home – La Union,” SPM Flores said in his privilege speech during the said session.
