The Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management team discusses first aid and basic life support concepts and principles to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Secretariat and Staff during the disaster preparedness orientation on June 22, 2018 at the Speaker Pro-Tempore Francisco I. Ortega Provincial Legislative Building and Session Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union. Proper administration of CPR was demonstrated by a PDRRM staff.
As part of the office’s action plan to reduce the risk of any natural and man-made disasters, calamities and emergencies, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Office together with the resource speakers from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) conducted a disaster preparedness orientation on June 22, 2018 at the Speaker Pro-Tempore Francisco I. Ortega Provincial Legislative Building and Session Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.
In attendance are employees of the SP together with students currently working in the SP Office under the Special Program for the Employment of Students program.
Mr. Ronald E. Talagtag, resource speaker from PDRRMO, made a visual survey of the individual workplaces of the Vice-Governor, SP Members and Secretariat Staff and the surroundings of the building and gave his practical suggestions on the easiest and most practical evacuation plan during earthquakes, fire and other calamities that require going out from the office. He mentioned that there are better and more practical alternatives as evacuation route depending on the location of the employee. The evacuation plan should be well-communicated and understood by each employee so that they would know where to exit in case of calamities, specially that the SP building is built on a mountain slope, making it double the risk compared to a building built on a flat land surface.
He mentioned also the importance of drill, such as the earthquake drills, especially that La Union is connected to the Philippine fault zone. He underscored that whenever earthquake or fire drills are conducted, everyone should participate as these drills would gauge the readiness of the employees as to their reaction during calamities and disasters.
The PDRRM team through Mr. David Ken F. Salamanca and Mr. Jeoffrey S. Niño likewise discussed first aid and basic life support concepts and principles as well as proper administration of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
On the pipeline is the organization of the SP Disaster Management Committee and the SP Disaster Management Plan to include the evacuation plan and the action plan for the implementation of the recommendations of PDRRMO.
Said orientation seminar is the first part of the series of seminars and meetings and drills to keep everyone safe including clients and visitors coming to the SP Office.
