San Juan: World-Class Surfing, Agri-Eco Tourism Destination by 2025

With the aim to align its vision to place La Union as the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025 to the Local Government Unit of San Juan, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) facilitated the Municipal Development Strategy (MDS) Workshop in said municipality on August 9-10, 2018 at Kahuna Resort and Restaurant, Urbiztondo, San Juan, La Union.

The workshop was attended by Municipal Officials of San Juan headed by Mayor Arturo P. Valdriz; San Juan Barangay Captains; and Department Heads and key personnel of Municipal Government of San Juan.

In his speech, Gov. Pacoy expressed his appreciation for Mayor Valdriz and the rest of LGU San Juan for reaching out and expressing their intent in anchoring on the Province’s Agri-Tourism Vision. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of the LGU’s role in ensuring the environmental sustainability amidst the continuous tourism developments within the Municipality. Gov. Pacoy also stated that PGLU shall support the LGU through several interventions such as infrastructure development, tourism marketing, and technical assistance.

The participants underwent series of modules and team building activities facilitated by Governor’s Consultant Ms. Agnes Grace A. Cargamento together with members of the Office for Provincial Strategy (OPS).

Led by Mayor Valdriz, the participants decided to focus its development strategies on its existing industrial strengths in Surfing, Pottery, and Agriculture.

Anchoring to the Agri-Tourism Vision, LGU San Juan identified its new vision tagline to be “San Juan, a World-Class Surfing and Agri-Eco Tourism Destination by 2025.” and its new vision statement as “By 2025, San Juan is a World-class Surfing and Agri-Eco Tourism destination with Competitive Pottery-Making industry; Safe, Sustainable and Resilient Environment; where Citizens are God-fearing, Healthy and Empowered by Dynamic, Dedicated and Competent Leaders.”

In order for this to materialize, LGU San Juan identified specific Programs, Projects, and Activities which have direct impact to the attainment of the vision. Furthermore, they are looking at the possibility of installing the Performance Governance System (PGS) within their own Municipality to further advance and support its development initiatives.
