Aiming to make La Union rabies-free, a lecture focusing on prevention and control to increase public awareness on the danger of the disease and to encourage pet owners to register and have their dogs and cats vaccinated against rabies was delivered by Ms. Karen Carmi Malig, Rabies Control Coordinator of the province.
The advocacy was attended by participants from Barangay Cabaritan Norte, Cabaritan Sur and Dalipaoen, Naguilian, La Union.
Rabies is a viral disease caused by a Lyssavirus which is transmitted to human beings through the saliva following a bite or scratch by rabid animals. An infected person may develop the symptoms a few days after the bite or it can take 6 years before the symptoms appear. It is fatal but at the same time it is preventable.
