‘PurgaKapon-binsyanihan’ Commences for Healthy Livestock, Serves 973 Farmers

The Provincial Government of La Union headed by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, through the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, launched the PurgaKapon-binsyanihan program which provides free necessary veterinary services to small ruminants like goats and sheep and large ruminants such as carabao and cattle to give aid to KaPROBINSYAnihan farmers and cattle-raisers. These services include estrus or heat synchronization, artificial insemination, castration, deworming, and vitamin supplementation.
From the series of PurgaKapon-binsyanihan, 26 cattle and 7 carabaos were estrus synchronized; 17 cattle and 1 carabao were subjected to artificial insemination; 35 cattle, 1 carabao, and 1 goat were castrated; 360 cattle, 57 carabao, and 429 goats were dewormed; and 397 cattle, 60 carabao, and 241 goats were supplemented with multivitamins. A total of 973 farmers/ owners were helped through the activities provided in the program.
PurgaKapon-binsyanihan was conducted every Tuesday starting February this year in the different local government units of La Union. The activity kicked off at the Municipality of Agoo on February 20, 2024, followed by Bangar on February 27, 2024, Bagulin on March 5, 2024, San Gabriel on March 12, 2024, Rosario on March 19, 2024, Bauang on March 27, 2024, Sudipen on April 2, 2024, City of San Fernando on April 16, 2024, Balaoan on April 23, 2024, Aringay on April 30, 2024, Santol on May 7, 2024, Bacnotan on May 14, 2024, San Juan on May 21 and 28, 2024, finally, Naguilian on June 4, 2024.
Given the onset of the rainy season, PurgaKapon-binsyanihan has temporarily paused operations to ensure the safety of the PGLU employees, farmer beneficiaries, and their animals. It is set to resume its services in September 2024 once the weather permits. Regardless, Gov. Rafy and the whole PGLU maintain their position in forwarding universal access to basic needs even in animals and cattle of La Union.
