Provincial, Local Efforts for Resiliency in La Union Recognized

The Provincial Government of La Union and its Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) recognized the 23rd Gawad Kalasag Awardees through Resolutions of Congratulations and Commendation authored by Board Member Gerard G. Ostrea, Chairperson of the Committee on Disaster Preparedness and Management and Relief Services during the 82nd Regular Session of the 23rd Sangguniang Panlalawigan on January 23, 2024 at the Speaker Pro-Tempore Francisco I. Ortega Provincial Legislative Bldg. and Session Hall, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The Gawad KALASAG Award (KAlamidad at SAkuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan) is given to local government units (LGUs) that adhere to the standards in the establishment and functionality of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and Offices as mandated under Republic Act No. 10121 also known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.
The Province of La Union through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) received the Gawad Kalasag Fully Compliant Award together with the Municipalities of Aringay, Bacnotan, Bagulin, Balaoan, Bangar, Bauang, Burgos, Caba, Luna, Naguilian, Rosario, San Gabriel, Sto. Tomas and Santol also through their respective Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMO).
The City of San Fernando through its City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) together with the Municipality of Agoo through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office received the Gawad Kalasag Beyond Compliant Award.
The award also serves as a performance assessment mechanism and instrument for LGUs and other stakeholders, reinforcing their commitment and support towards the enhancement of DRRM programs. It recognizes their exceptional contributions to building national resilience and capacities for safer communities for all KaPROBINSYAnihan.
