Provincial Jail Inmates Undergo PREX Seminar

A total of twenty five inmates, seventeen (17) male and eight (8) female, attended the Parish Renewal Experience (PREX) Seminar last April 18, 19 & 20, 2018 at the La Union Provincial Jail. The seminar was conducted by the PREX Secretariat of the St. William’s Parish Church headed by Mr. Bert Lacsamana.
The PREX, which started in Trenton, New Jersey was first introduced in the Philippines during the 1980s by the Sanctuario de San Agustin as a Catholic faith formation seminar. Their primary aim was to evangelize and impart Catholic teachings and bring forth a conversion experience and sense of fraternal belonging.
The seminar involves four (4) interrelated talks – Establishing Self-Identity; Self Examination; Understanding God’s Plan and Faith to Others. The PREX Secretariat admitted that they found no difficulty dealing with the inmates during the course of the seminar. All participants were very attentive and cooperative as well.
The La Union Provincial Jail with the support of the Provincial Government of La Union led by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III offers rehabilitation programs to improve the lives of inmates. Part of the program is the moral and spiritual aspect that utilizes various faith communities and other religious volunteers to serve as support facilitators or mentors in the reformation of inmates. The group provides weekly religious activities ranging from bible studies, prayer meeting, praise and worship.
