The Sanitation Inspectors of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Rural Health Unit (RHU) workers, a nurse from the National Commission on Indigenous People, and Barangay Health Workers (BHW) of Barangay Castro, Sudipen, La Union conduct house-to-house operations for dengue cases, vector surveillance and monitoring of environment risk factors on May 24, 2019 in Sudipen, La Union.

A team composed of representatives from the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Sudipen, and National Commission on Human Rights, and Barangay Officials worked together in the Search and Destroy Operation on May 24, 2019 in Sudipen, La Union.

Dengue fever is the most important mosquito-borne viral disease in the world and transmitted primarily by female aedes mosquitoes. It is marked by an onset of sudden fever, severe headache and pain behind the eyes, muscles and joints. Some may develop rashes and varying degrees of bleeding in the different parts of the body.

Out of 354 households in the barangay, the teams visited 100 of them to conduct a clean-up drive focusing on the destruction of mosquito breeding places and vector surveillance and monitoring of environment risk factors. The officials have advised the villages on the 4S strategies which are Search and destroy mosquito breeding places; Seek early consultation; Self-protection method; and Support fogging/spraying only in the hot spot areas to prevent an outbreak. Larvicide was also distributed to each household.

Mr. Prudencio Partible, Rural Sanitation Inspector I, have examined samples taken from the site through a microscope and confirmed that the sample is an Aedes Aegypti mosquito that can spread Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika fever, and other diseases.

In support of Gov. Pacoy’s vision of a Healthy La Union, Happy La Union by 2022, the Provincial Health Office led by Dr. Hector Beñas is in full swing to combat vector borne diseases throughout the province. #
