FIGHT AGAINST DIGITAL ADDICTION. In cooperation with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, the Autism Society of the Philippines – La Union Chapter conducted a lecture on digital addiction on May 4, 2019 in the City of San Fernando, La Union.
The Autism Society of the Philippines (ASP) – La Union, in partnership with the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) and Kids Coaching Solutions, has conducted empowerment seminar on “Digital Addiction: What it is and how it Affects our Children” as part of its ongoing knowledge enhancement sessions on May 4, 2019 in the City of San Fernando, La Union.
The aim of this seminar is to highlight management interventions of parents, guardians and professionals dealing with children within Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It is also designed to teach the parents in dealing with their children throwing tantrums when asked to surrender their gadgets, or when they show irrational behavior from such withdrawal.
With constant exposure to screens, parents are concerned about what all this screen time is doing to their children and their developing brains.
“They must be kept abreast of the negative effects of technology and digital media platforms and ways how they can protect their children,” Mr. Angel Ramat from Kids Coaching Solutions said.
“With the youth addicted to online gaming and computer related gadgets, it is now the role of government to strengthen parenting through capability building programs,” he added.
Monthly parent training, sensitivity advocacies for the general public and family support group sessions are among the measures undertaken by the PGLU to effectively address the challenges posed.
With the full support of the PGLU, the Autism Society of the Philippines (ASP) - La Union is a chapter of a national, non-profit organization which is dedicated to the well-being of people within the autism spectrum disorder. The ASP has been in the forefront of providing services and training to families having children with autism.
