Participants from the Southern Circuit discuss and prepare their inputs during the Extended Local Tourism Development Planning Writeshop conducted on October 16, 2018 at the Agoo Swimmers World Resort and Hotel, Agoo, La Union.

With the aim of urging all local government units (LGUs) in the province to formulate their respective tourism plans, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) in collaboration with the Department of Tourism – Region 1 (DOT-RO1), conducted an Extended Local Tourism Development Planning Writeshop on October 9 – 12 and 16, 2018.

The activity was the third writeshop conducted for Local Tourism Development Plan (LTDP) which provided documentation tips and strategies. It was participated in by Municipal Planning Officers, Municipal Tourism Officers and Municipal Agriculturists. In her message, DOT Regional Director Martin S. Valera encouraged the LGUs to ensure that all their best practices are duly documented.

Throughout the activity, participants also underwent mini-workshops on using the LTDP templates. The participants were given the chance to present to the body their workshop outputs which were critiqued by the evaluators from the DOT-RO1, Provincial Planning and Development Office, Provincial Tourism Office and Provincial Agriculture, who were also provided inputs on how to improve their tourism plans. Areas of convergence were also encouraged and identified in order to maximize benefits and to ensure that tourism is made inclusive and sustainable to the community.

Moreover, the LGUs were able to refine the vision and goals of their tourism area, prepared the investment program and ranked the programs and projects and formulated the action plan as well as the monitoring and evaluation strategy.

The Plan will provide a comprehensive framework and strategic guide for LGUs for tourism activities in the short, medium and long term to encourage more investors and will standardize the industry services and accreditation process.

PGLU is currently putting emphasis on local economic development with focus on tourism and investments. The output of each LGUs were turned over to the evaluators for any correction. The provincial government is set to conduct the similar writeshops per LGU for the finalization of their plans this coming November 2018 and the final plan will be endorsed by their respective Sangguniang Bayan for approval and implementation.
