In its stride to observe resilience among its employees and promote #AlertoKaprobinsiaan, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) participated in the First Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on March 25, 2024 within the vicinity of the Provincial Capitol of La Union.
The nationwide annual drill was an initiative by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and it aims to raise awareness and spread information on what safety measures should be taken once an earthquake hits the province.
As the drill started at 9:00 in the morning, 584 employees were alerted by the Provincial Siren and automatically executed the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” in their respective offices. After the one-minute-long alarm, employees were guided by the designated safety officers in heading out of the capitol building and settling into their assigned open space based on the PGLU Evacuation Plan.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) showed their expertise and alertness in rescuing those who acted as casualties and in keeping the perimeters safe for the public. Moreover, the PDRRMO also conducted a fire drill in accordance with unforeseen circumstances like fire incidents, specifically short circuiting or explosions that might possibly occur during an earthquake.
Overall, the PGLU garnered a satisfactory rating from the evaluators showcasing the PGLU’s readiness for possible disasters. With the successful exhibition of the earthquake drill, the PGLU will continue to commit to participating in disaster prevention activities as a part of the strengthened awareness and disaster preparedness of KaPROBINSYAnihan and as a reminder to be vigilant at all times.
