PGLU SHORES UP TOURISM AWARENESS

Provincial Information and Tourism Officer Mr. Adamor L. Dagang presents the 2019-2022 Midterm Tourism Strategy of the Province of La Union to the participants of the 2-day Tourism Awareness and Capability Building Seminar on May 23, 2019 at the Municipal Hall of San Juan, La Union. The seminar is designed to educate and train host communities of major attraction sites in the province to take advantage of tourism as an engine of local economic and community development while ensuring environmental sustainability. Participants are tourism stakeholders from the Municipality of San Juan and the City of San Fernando, La Union.

With the aim to create awareness on the role of tourism, the Provincial Government of La Union headed by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III through the Provincial Information Office – Tourism Operations Unit conducted a two-day Tourism Awareness and Capability Building Seminar on May 23 – 24, 2019 at the People’s Hall, San Juan Municipal Hall, Ili Sur, San Juan, La Union.

The seminar, conducted in collaboration with the Department of Tourism – Region 1 (DOT-RO1), was attended by around 40 tourism stakeholders which include tourism officers, Sangguniang Kabataan and barangay officials, local transport operators and drivers, tourism attractions/enterprises’ owners/managers and other tourism frontliners. Attendees were from the Municipality of San Juan and the City of San Fernando for the first batch.

During the first day of the seminar, Senior Tourism Operations Officer Arthur S. Cortez, Jr. highlighted that La Union residents particularly those who live in major tourism sites should value the culture of tourism and to make tourism the people’s business. San Juan Mayor Arturo P. Valdriz challenged the participants to come up with more ways to further boost tourism not only in their respective locality but in the whole province. Provincial Information Officer Mr. Adamor L. Dagang presented the 2019-2022 Midterm Tourism Strategy of the Province of La Union during the afternoon session.

On the second day, participants underwent mini-workshops. They were given the chance to present to the body their outputs through role playing presentation which were critiqued by resource speakers from the DOT-RO1. After all the presentations, a short exam for the participants was conducted.

Topics discussed included the Philippine Tourism; Faces of Tourism; Tourist Behavior Patterns and Market Profile; Tourism Marketing; Tourism Investments; Festival Planning and Handling; Tourist Products and Services; Tourist Reception and Guiding Techniques; Tourist Safety and Security; Child Wise Tourism; and Values Formation and Effective Customer Service.

The seminar was designed to educate and train host communities of major attraction sites in the province to take advantage of tourism as an engine of local economic and community development while ensuring environmental sustainability.

After the seminar, the participants were expected to have a broader understanding of the importance of tourism and to better equip themselves with the knowledge and skills relating to tourism planning, promotions and marketing as well as on how to interact with tourists who frequently visit major tourist attractions in the province.
