Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee Chairman on Disaster Preparedness and Management and Relief Services Board Member Gary N. Pinzon along with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) conducted an assessment visit in Luna, La Union today, July 24, 2021 to ensure safety of residents affected by landslides and floods brought about by Southwest Monsoon Rains.

While municipal relief operations have already started, Gov. Francisco Emmanuel "Pacoy" R. Ortega III has approved the initial augmentation of additional 500 relief packs from the Provincial Government of La Union as requested by the municipality.

"Let's do everything we can to help our component LGUs in securing our constituents from the effects of the rains but let's not put our guards down against CoViD-19," emphasized Gov. Pacoy.

Joining the team from the provincial government were municipal officials and employees. With the threat of CoViD-19 in mind, evacuation to relatives from unaffected barangays and to barangay evacuation centers was recommended for landslide-affected families. Flood management suggestions were also given to barangay officials. As per 5PM Disaster Operations Status Report, 840 families were affected by the heavy rains in Luna from 11 barangays.

The Municipality of Luna was among the most affected by the monsoon rains but other component local government units of La Union are continuously being monitored by the PDRRMO for their needs.

There is no tropical cyclone wind signal in the province but the PGLU calls for #AlertoKaprobinsiaan as scattered to widespread moderate to at times heavy rains due to Southwest Monsoon are still expected.
