The Provincial Government of La Union releases more than 20,000 packs of hybrid palay seeds to the province’s pre-master-listed farmers on May 18, 2018 at the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) grounds, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The agricultural intervention on distributing 24, 750 packs of hybrid palay seeds came after Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III recognized the immediate need for support to the farming communities towards an increased rice production in the countryside to spur rural agricultural development. This is considered as a top priority project of his administration.
Provincial Rural Based Organization Focal Person Justin F. Casuga pushed to enhance the OPAg rice team even as he encourages every farmer to remain supportive to the administration under its mandate as an “enabler” of Local Government Units towards positioning La Union as the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
“…we have placed our province to where it truly deserves… With OPAg as our frontline service provider in local agriculture, I am confident that every farmer in La Union will feel the warmth of support and belongingness while our provincial government is taking serious efforts in shaping our Agri-Tourism vision. These palay seeds are just one of the many blessings from government which our stakeholders should be truly grateful of as embark and invest more in local agriculture to transform our farmers as the modern-day ‘agriprenuer’…” Gov. Pacoy said as he cited the gains of La Union as one of the seven provinces in the country to have conferred the national distinction as a National Rice Achievers Awardee.
The said palay seed varieties include SL-8, NK 5017, PHB- 77, PHB- 79, TH82, Bigante Plus and LP 2096.
