PGLU PROVIDES EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO STUDENTS DURING THE NEW NORMAL

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO-La Union) in partnership with the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid La Union Campus (DMMMSU-MLUC) conducted an orientation to the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) Workers on June 22, 2021 at DMMMSU-MLUC Covered Court, City of San Fernando, La Union with 47 SPES workers attendees.
PESO-La Union invited resource speakers from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and Department of Labor and Employment - La Union Field Office (DOLE-LUFO). The SPES workers were oriented about the CoViD-19 Vaccine Program 10 Must Knows for Everyone which was discussed by Health Education and Promotions Officer Prixies R. Sambrano of PHO. She also explained the benefits of the CoViD-19 vaccines to the body, the vaccination procedure and the importance of protecting our family by being vaccinated. Nurse II Katrina E. Gallema of PHO discussed the CoViD-19 Principles of New Normal, Key Components of New Normal, CoViD-19 Administrative Order No. 2020-015 Implementing Mechanisms, CoViD-19 Preventive Practices and Adherence to Minimum Public Health Standards.
Representatives from DOLE-LUFO Senior Labor & Employment Officer Ester P. Prepose oriented the SPES workers on the SPES Procedural Flow, Application Process, Pre-Employment and Employment Period, Post-Employment and Processing of Payment, while Foreign National Labor Inspector Rommel L. Austria discussed topics on the Importance of Practicing 5s and the 5s Steps of Good Housekeeping.
Provincial PESO Manager Charito C. Dator discussed to the SPES workers the importance of punctuality, dress code and grooming, politeness to clients, positive work attitude, obedience to PGLU policies, the duties and responsibilities in the area of assignment and compliance for the on-time submission of SPES requirements, Daily Time Record and Accomplishment Report for the processing of payroll. She also advised the SPES Workers to adhere to the safety health protocols implemented in the workplace by properly wearing of face masks and face shields, observance of physical distancing and frequent hand washing.
SPES is one of the PESO programs that aims to help needy but deserving students to encourage and provide employment to be able to gain income to help them pursue their education. This program is mandated under Republic Act 10917/DOLE Department Order No. 175 Series of 2017. SPES workers will be assigned to the different departments/offices in the Provincial Government of La Union and they will render 20 days of work starting July 1-20, 2021. The PGLU will shoulder 60% of the salary while the 40% will be paid by DOLE.
The program serves as training ground for students to discover and develop their skills as they go on with their studies. This program has always been a part of PGLU’s development agenda for education and employment.
