In an effort to foster self-reliance, 35 members of the Pederasyon ng May Kapansanan ng La Union (PMKLU) and Women with Disabilities (WWD) joined the Crochet Livelihood Training program initiative of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), in collaboration with the office of Board Member Maria Annabelle De Guzman, on September 22, 2023, at the Congressman Eufranio "Franny" C. Eriguel Hall, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Building, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The goal of the program is to equip individuals with disabilities with the skills needed to increase their income generation opportunities. Furthermore, as crocheting will be featured in this year's abilympics, it presents an ideal opportunity for participants to not only learn the basics of this art form but also to explore styles and patterns that PWD participants might use for the crocheting competition.
Under the leadership of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David, the PGLU continues to champion programs that create a conducive environment for PWDs to thrive and contribute actively to the community. She also reaffirms that everyone, regardless of their abilities or disabilities, should have equal opportunities to achieve personal and financial growth.
Through such programs, La Union aims to empower PWD Kaprobinsiaan and promote inclusivity and self-reliance within the community.
