PGLU PREPS FOR KURDITAN KABATAAN 2023; CONDUCTS BASIC ILOKO SCRIPTWRITING WORKSHOP

In line with the celebration of Language Month, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the La Union Provincial Tourism Office – Culture and the Arts Unit in collaboration with the Office of Panlalawigang Pederasyon ng mga Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) initiated the Basic Iloko Scriptwriting Workshop on August 25, 2023, at the Bayview Hall, Speaker Pro-Tempore Francisco I. Ortega Provincial Legislative Building, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The Basic Iloko Scriptwriting Workshop is a capacity reinforcement activity for the coaches of various school districts and clusters as a crucial part in the preparations for the Kurditan Kabataan 2023: Iloko One-Act Playwriting.
Representing Ex-Officio Board Member (BM) Alyssa Kristine B. Sibuma as Committee Chairperson on Youth and Sports Development, Private Secretary Kristian A. Ramirez delivered an opening message underlining the importance of conducting activities that seek to promote and preserve culture, arts, and language. He also highlighted the unique talents, knowledge, and skills of the youth in the province, assuring them of the continued commitment of the BM Sibuma in providing more meaningful and worthwhile programs, projects, and activities. Also, BM Cynthia Angelica M. Bacurnay, Committee Chairperson on Culture and Arts, extended her gratitude to all the teachers joining the workshop. She highlighted their crucial role as coaches in this program who significantly contribute to the growth and development of the youth and students.
On the other hand, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David in her message, delivered by Provincial Tourism Officer Arthur S. Cortez, Jr., emphasized her priorities and commitments to revitalize the Iloko language, as she recognized the important role of the mother tongue in increasing literacy and reshaping identity which is vital for nation-building. “Babaen iti intayo pannakipag-La Union PROBINSYAnihan, mangnamnamakayo iti agtultuloy a suporta ti PGLU iti talentoyo ken ti pannakaitandudo ti lengguahe nga Iloko para iti sumaruno a henerasyon,” Gov. Rafy added.
The workshop represented an opportunity for aspiring young Ilokano playwrights to learn from experienced professionals, develop their skills, and bring their unique stories to life. The workshop series cover a range of topics, including Basic Iloko Writing presented by Gunglo dagiti Mannurat nga Ilokano - San Fernando, La Union Chapter President Djuna R. Alcantara; Discussions on planning and plotting, character development, dialogue, choices and consequences by Culture and Arts Officer Rannie C. Nieva; and Fundamentals of Play Scriptwriting by La Union Creative Industries Association Vice President Vernon Albert M. Cabading.
The Kurditan Kabataan: Iloko One-Act Playwriting is open to public and private schools in La Union, including those enrolled in the Alternative Learning System and Out of School Youth. The elimination round is set to take place on September 11, 2023 while the final round will be held on September 26, 2023. This competition is an excellent platform for all the participating youth/students to showcase their proficiency in Iloko writing and to promote Ilokano culture and tradition.
PGLU hopes that through the Kurditan Kabataan: Iloko One-Act Playwriting, the younger generation will be more engaged and involved in the promotion and preservation of the Iloko language. This initiative also signifies the province’s commitment to promoting and celebrating Ilokano talent and creativity in response to the call for #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan.
