As the vaccination programs of the government became more available to the people in the province of La Union, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the leadership of Governor Francisco Emmanuel R. βPacoyβ Ortega III extended assistance for the inclusion of Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) workers in providing them RT-PCR Swab Test & vaccines as they render work in the different offices in PGLU for 20 days.
SPES is Department of Labor & Employmentβs (DOLE) youth employment-bridging program that aims to encourage and assist poor, but deserving students to pursue their education by engaging short-term employment during summer vacation. Under this program, it also enables the students to experience how a working life is while they are trained to improve their skills, build their confidence and self-discipline.
Before their employment in PGLU, Provincial Health Office (PHO) representative, Ms. Prixies R. Sambrano, Health Education and Promotions Officer, successfully communicated the benefits of the Covid-19 vaccine to the body, the vaccination procedure and the importance of protecting their family to the 47 SPES workers during their SPES orientation on June 21, 2021 at DMMMSU-MLUC Covered Court, Catbangen, City of San Fernando, La Union.
On June 25, 2021, the SPES workers were given RT-PCR Test at the Home of Hope, Sevilla, City of San Fernando, La Union and they were vaccinated in the Provincial Health Office (PHO) on August 3, 2021. According to the DOLE β Regional Office I, the provision of RT-PCR and vaccines to the SPES workers is a commendable act of PGLU as they are one of the first few agencies in the country to provide this kind of COVID-19 mitigation program for SPES workers.
PGLU will always advocate the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines to the people across different age groups through effective public engagement in releasing proactive information on vaccination strategies, crisis response and social objectives to ensure the protection and welfare of the people in La Union.
