PGLU PAYS TRIBUTE TO ELDERLIES

SWEET LIFE. The Senior Citizens of La Union enjoying the old music entertainment and dance exercise during the the Provincial Elderly Week celebration with a theme, “Kilalanin at Parangalan : Taga Sulong Ng Karapatan Ng Nakatatanda Tungo Sa Lipunang Makapagkalinga” held on October 8, 2018 at the La Union Technology and Livelihood Development Center, Guerrero Road, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The Provincial Government of La Union showed its love and support to the senior citizens of La Union through the Provincial Elderly Week celebration with a theme, “Kilalanin at Parangalan : Taga Sulong Ng Karapatan Ng Nakatatanda Tungo Sa Lipunang Makapagkalinga” held on October 8, 2018 at the La Union Technology and Livelihood Development Center, Guerrero Road, City of San Fernando, La Union.

Various activities were organized during the said celebration to raise awareness and supporting elders and to recognize their achievements. Activities in the week-long celebration include old music entertainment and dance numbers. They were also oriented of the special discounts they can get from businesses.

Provincial Board Member and Committee Chairman on Social Services, Bellarmin A. Flores II delivered the speech of Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III to more than 100 attendees saying, “Man is composed of body and soul and as such they have to take care of their physical self – their body by maintaining a healthy lifestyle and nourish their spiritual self – their soul by maintaining a healthy relationship with the Lord Almighty God the giver of life, to enjoy an even long and happy life.” BM. Flores also committed Php 10,000 to the senior citizens as additional cash prize for their singing competition called “Himig Handog Para sa Nakatatanda.”

Senior Marketing Head of Renato E. Herrera (R.E.H.) Herbal Trading and Manufacturing, Mr. Emil P. Zabat also briefed the Senior Citizens on a deeper understanding about diabetes. A Bingo Game was played by the participants.

Provincial Elderly Week is under Proclamation No. 1503, s. 1975, and declares the period from October 1 to 7, 1994, and every first week of October of every year as Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino (Elderly Filipino Week).
