In celebration of National History Month, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) took center stage in commemorating the 126th Anniversary of the 1898 Bacoor Assembly on August 1, 2024, at the historic Bahay na Tisa (Cuenca Ancestral House) in Bacoor City, Cavite.

The ceremony is part of the 2023-2026 Commemoration of Philippine Independence and Nationhood spearheaded by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and the Bacoor City Culture, History, Arts and Tourism Department of the City Government of Bacoor. It aimed to reflect on the assembly on August 1, 1898, when around 200 elected municipal presidents from 16 provinces, including La Union, gathered to take their oaths of office which marked the official declaration of Philippine independence from Spanish colonial rule.

The PGLU, headed by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, represented by Executive Assistant Eleazar Belgica, participated in the wreath-laying ceremony by bringing its provincial flag and a wreath to pay respects to the celebration and the sacrifices of the country’s forefathers. Its involvement also serves to strengthen La Union’s ties with other provinces, such as Quezon, Morong, Bulacan, Pampanga, Laguna, Batangas, and Cavite, extending La Union PROBINSYAnihan’s principles of unity and solidarity to different regions.

Gov. Rafy is positive that PGLU’s proud contribution can honor heritage, foster partnerships, and attract tourism and investment opportunities which, in turn, improve the services that PGLU offers to improve KaPROBINSYAnihan’s lives.
