PGLU-LUPJ Promotes Inclusivity, Equality in Nat'l Correctional Consciousness Week; PDLS, Parolees Showcased Basketball Skills

The Provincial Government of La Union, through the La Union Provincial Jail (LUPJ), joined the celebration of National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW) by organizing a Friendship Basketball Cup that brought together employees from National Government Agencies and Private Stakeholders, Persons Deprived of Liberty, and Parolees.
The two-day sports event conducted on October 25-26, 2023 at LUPJ quadrangle was made possible with the support and La Union PROBINSYAnihan of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Provincial Office – La Union (BJMPPO-LU), and City of San Fernando Parole and Probation Office (CSFPPO). Aside from promoting a healthy lifestyle for the physical and mental well-being of participating individuals, the Friendship Cup aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by individuals involved in the criminal justice system, and to foster a greater sense of empathy and inclusivity.
In her message delivered by Executive Assistant Eleazar Belgica, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David emphasized the significance of NACOCOW and the Friendship Cup, saying, "The Friendship Cup is more than just a competition among the participating teams, it is a symbol of unity, respect, and the unwavering belief in the power of rehabilitation. Participants may have been separated by bars or titles, but they are united in one passion and commitment to the betterment of society."
BJMPPO-LU, CSFPPO, PDLs and Parolees formed their respective basketball teams and showcased great sportsmanship in every game they competed. BJMPPO-LU emerged as the champion after two days of competition.
The Friendship Basketball Cup as part of the NACOCOW celebration not only highlighted the importance of promoting equality and inclusivity in La Union, but also served as a reminder for all kaprobinsiaan that every individual, regardless of their background, deserves a second chance and an opportunity to reintegrate into society.
