PGLU LEADS NATIONAL STATISTICS MONTH CELEBRATION

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) and the Provincial Statistics Committee (PrSC) chaired by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III led the nationwide celebration of the 29th National Statistics Month (NSM) in La Union. Various activities have been lined-up by the for the month-long celebration.
With theme “Exploring Philippine Wonders in Numbers: Statistics Towards Sustainable Tourism Development (Panagsukimat ti Dayag ti Pilipinas Babaen ti Numero: Estadistika Para ti Agtultuloy a Panagdur-as ti Turismo),” the event kicked-off with the Search for Best NSM Float through a motorcade cum float parade around the City of San Fernando, La Union on October 2, 2018. The float of the Municipality of Sudipen emerged as winner.
A Statistical Info Exhibit was opened at the Pasalubong Center. Chief Tourism Operations Officer Modesto D. Baloloy and Board Member Jonathan Justo A. Orros led the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon of the exhibit.
In the Jingle Making Contest for secondary level, Don Eulogio De Guzman Memorial National High School (DEGMNHS), Bauang, La Union bagged the First Place while Regional Science High School (RSHS), Bangar, La Union and Bacnotan National High School got the second and third place, respectively.
On October 9, 2018, secondary and tertiary students, teachers and coaches from the different schools provincewide; and government and private employees joined the simultaneous NSM contests which include Essay Writing, Statistics Quiz, Oratorical and Poster- Slogan Making Contest in the Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The Essay Writing contest concluded with First Placers Hannah Reyna Gravidez of Rosario Integrated School (RIS) for the secondary level, Daryl Abacco of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-South La Union Campus (DMMMSU-SLUC) for the tertiary level, and Nasser Dugasan of Naguilian National High School for the employee level.
For the Poster-Slogan Making Contest, First Placers were Edward Calonge, Jr. of Rosario Integrated School (RIS) for the secondary level, and Arkwright Pangilinan of Lorma Colleges for the tertiary level.
A Statistics Quiz Contests were also held with BHC Educational Institution for the secondary level and Saint Louis College for tertiary level emerging as First Placers.
For the Oratorical Contest, First Placers are Julienne Frances Lourean Valdez of BHC Educational Institute for the secondary level and Carla Bianca Alcantara from DMMMSU-SLUC for the tertiary level.
All First Place winners of the different contests will represent the Province of La Union in the Regional Contest to be held on October 17, 2018 at the University of Northern Philippines, Vigan City.
A Symposium on Statistics: A Campus Tour for Secondary Schools were held at Bangbangolan National High School, San Fernando City, San Gabriel Vocational High School and Pugo National High School on October 10, 11 and 12, 2018, respectively.
The following activities were also slated for this year’s NSM celebration: Statistical Training on Infographics and Tourism Statistics on October 17, 2018 at the Pasalubong Center, City of San Fernando, La Union; Coastal Clean Up along the seashores of the Agoo-Damortis Protected Landscape and Seascape (ADPLS) Area, Sta. Rita, Agoo, La Union on October 18, 2018. A Search for Best LGU NSM Exhibit will also be conducted for the different municipalities and city in the province.
The month-long NSM celebration in the Province will culminate with the Awarding and Closing Ceremonies to be conducted on October 26, 2018 at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The NSM was institutionalized by P.D. No. 647 and is being celebrated during the month of October of each year with the objective of promoting, enhancing and instilling awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics in local governance specifically on decision making, planning, financial management and project implementation.
