By virtue of Provincial Ordinance No. 034-2012 or the Act Declaring and Fixing the first Monday of June as Arbor Day of Tree Planting in La Union, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the Provincial Government - Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) and with the assistance of Col. Ramon Tobby Tamayo, PGLU’s Consultant on Environment, conducted a Tree-Planting activity on June 3, 2024, at Bakawan Eco-park, Bauang, La Union.
Representatives from the Office of the Governor, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Provincial Legal Office, Office of the Provincial Veterinary, Bids and Awards Committee, Office of the Provincial Assessor, Office of the Sanguniang Panlalawigan, Bacnotan District Hospital, Local Economic Enterprise and Investment Promotion Office, Provincial Treasury Office, Provincial Health Office, and the Office of the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, together with the Municipal and Barangay Local Government Unit of Bauang, planted 287 beach types (salt-tolerant) species such as Botong, Bittaog, Logo, Kasoy, Kalantas, and Damortis. This initiative was undertaken to help improve water quality, biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, and coastal protection in the province.
“Planting seedlings of native species and diversity coupled with area suitability, proper care, and maintenance is necessary to ensure tree growing,” Col. Tamayo shared as he commended the efforts of the participants. “As advocates of the environment, let's encourage everyone to play a crucial role in our environment,” he added.
The PGLU staying true to its position as an ecologically friendly institution positively contributes to the promotion of the #KalikasanNaman campaign which encourages KaPROBINSYAnihan to prioritize and care for the environment.
