PGLU JOINS TRIP REGIONAL CONSULTATION

Department of Tourism-Region 1 (DOT-Region 1) Director Joseph Francisco “Jeff” R. Ortega talks about the sustaining efforts of DOT and Department of Public Works and Highways to promote tourism through the construction of quality and safe access roads not only in the province but in the whole region during the the Regional Consultation Meeting held on February 17, 2020 at the Marand Beach Resort, Baccuit Norte, Bauang, La Union.
In line with the objectives of the Department of Tourism and Department of Public Works and Highways (DOT-DPWH) Convergence Program, also known as Tourism Road Infrastructure Program (TRIP) to identify, prioritize, and implement road access infrastructure leading to various tourism sites in the country, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) took part in the Regional Consultation Meeting held on February 17, 2020 at the Marand Beach Resort, Baccuit Norte, Bauang, La Union.
The meeting attended by key Officials, District Engineers, Tourism Officers, and Planning Officers from the four provinces of Region 1 discussed the Program Details and Policy Guidance of the FY 2021 DOT-DPWH Convergence Program Budgeting as well as the Presentation of the Automation Process of Project Proposal Submission.
DOT-Region 1 Dir. Joseph Francisco “Jeff” R. Ortega and DPWH-Region 1 Dir. Ronnel M. Tan graced the program. During the consultation, stakeholders discussed the infrastructure projects under the TRIP.
In his Opening Message, Dir. Ortega mentioned the sustaining efforts of DOT and DPWH to promote tourism through the construction of quality and safe access roads not only in the province but in the whole region.
On-going projects under the TRIP for the First District of La Union are Access Road leading to Municipal Tree Park and all Pavilion and Retreat Center (Poblacion), Sasaba Rice Terraces, Bimmulalakaw and Pimmalangka Waterfalls, Gongo (Native Tomb) and Amburayan River, Brgy. Corrooy in the Municipality of Santol; and Bucao-Amontoc Access Road leading to Tangadan Falls, Brgy. Bucao, in the Municipalty of San Gabriel.
While for the Second District are Access Road leading to Sangbay Falls and Mini Rice Terraces, Brgy. Gusing Sur, in Naguilian; Access Roads in Barangays Taberna, Baccuit Norte and Baccuit Sur leading to the Beach, in Bauang; Naguilian-Bagulin Road leading to Tuddingan Falls and Kedlap Burial Cave, in Naguilian-Bagulin; and Samara-Salapac Road leading to the Beach and Centennial Tunnel in Aringay.
For this year, there were two funded projects for the province under TRIP: the Rehabilitation of Samara-Salapac Road Leading to the Beach and Centennial Tunnel in Aringay and the Improvement of Access Roads in Barangays Taberna, Baccuit Norte and Baccuit Sur Leading to the Beach in Bauang.
PGLU proposed other remaining road concreting projects for the province that will be funded by Department of Budget and Management through DPWH by 2021. These key road projects are concreting of roads leading to major tourist destinations in the municipalities of Sudipen, Agoo, Caba and Pugo.
