PGLU JOINS TESDA IN THE CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL TECH-VOC DAY

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) joined the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in commemorating National Tech-Voc Day by partaking in the World Café of Opportunities (WCO) and Jobs Fair held on August 23, 2023, at the Barangay Covered Court of Madayegdeg, City of San Fernando, La Union

WCO is a jobs fair that catered to TESDA graduates, alumni, returning OFWs, and other job seekers. Attendees had the opportunity to explore TESDA scholarship registrations and witness hands-on skills demonstrations. Distribution of starter kits to TESDA graduate-scholars also took place on the said event.

In her address, TESDA La Union Provincial Director Ruth E. Dayawen emphasized the importance of TESDA's Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Special Training for Employment Program (STEP). These initiatives play a crucial role in bridging the gap between job seekers and available opportunities while also encouraging self-employment and entrepreneurship among the youth.

Speaking on behalf of Governor Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David, Executive Assistant Dr. Eleazar Belgica conveyed the commitment of the Provincial Government of La Union to support programs aimed at providing equal employment opportunities for La Union residents. He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts to match job seekers with programs and opportunities aligned with their skills and interests.

“Sa ganito pong mga pagkakataon, iisa lang po ang layunin nating lahat, ang ipakita at patunayan na sa pamamagitan ng pakikipag La Union PROBINSYAnihan nating lahat, nakatutulong tayo sa ating mga TVET graduates na mapadali ang paghahanap ng trabaho na angkop at naaayon sa kanilang tinapos na programa at interest. Asahan niyo rin po ang patuloy na suporta ng Provicial Government of La Union sa pamamagitan ng pagsasaayos at pagsisimula ng mga programa na naglalayong mabigyan ng pantay na oportunidad sa trabaho ang lahat ng mga kaprobinsiaan natin sa La Union," the Governor's message.

A total of 124 TVET graduates and alumni were assisted by PESO-LA Union and DOLE-LUFO Staff as they underwent job interviews from the 24 local and overseas employers who participated in the jobs fair. Job vacancies covered a wide range of positions, including carpenters, laborers, managers, resort managers, data encoders, nursing staff, caregivers, cooks, cleaners, machine operators, and more. Eighteen job seekers were offered positions on the spot.

Jobseekers, TVET graduates and guests also enjoyed free services including haircuts, wellness massage, manicure, and motorcycle servicing. TESDA showcased various skills demonstrations, such as beverage mixing, cake decoration, flower arrangement, restaurant services, seed sowing, bamboo weaving, and solar-powered irrigation. Visitors also had the opportunity to explore tech-voc product displays, enroll in TESDA scholarships, and receive information on Technical-Vocational Institutions' programs.

In the afternoon, TESDA La Union Provincial Director Ruth E. Dayawen presented the 2023 TESDA Kabalikat Award – Regional Winner (LGU Category) to Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Michaela Louise T. Delfinado. Additionally, a Certificate of Appreciation was conferred upon Gov. Rafy for serving as the Chairperson of the Provincial Technical Education and Skills Development Committee of La Union.

With the collaborative efforts of TESDA La Union, the PGLU through PESO, and various partner national government agencies, private institutions and Technical and Vocational Education accredited schools involved in the event, many opportunities were opened for TESDA graduates/alumni, scholars, returning OFWs and other job seekers. Indeed, #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan manifests the power of unity in advancing technical and vocational education and employment prospects for the kaprobinsiaan.
