Exhibiting due support to its workforce, the Provincial Government of La Union, headed by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, organized and administered a Job Orientation Program cum Gender Sensitivity Training for newly-appointed employees on June 27-28, 2024, at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Building, City of San Fernando, La Union.
Spearheaded by the Office of the Provincial Administrator-Human Resource Management Unit (OPA-HRMU), the two-part orientation program aimed to prepare the 41 onboarded employees from the 18 offices of the PGLU as they navigate the organization’s policies. This is among the initial steps of adaptation into the workplace to be effective in their respective roles.
The Gender Sensitivity Training educated the government employees regarding the basic terms regarding gender sensitivity and the proper conduct toward co-workers and clients. The invited subject matter expert, Civil Service Commission Regional Office I Chief Human Resource Specialist Jerwin R. Linsangan, put a creative touch on his prepared activities to engage with the participants while fostering inclusivity and gender equality.
Day 2 of the activity, or the Job Orientation proper, covered a wide range of topics discussed by different speakers. They were the Filipino Core Values Workshop led by Chaplain Ryan Jay O. Tamoria of the National Chaplains of the Philippines; Performance Governance System by Administrative Officer (AO) IV Jerome Orate of the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Office; Know your Responsibilities by AO IV Charissa Marie E. Go of OPA-HRMU; Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Training by Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer III David Ken F. Salamanca of PDRRMO; Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Benefits by Staff Officer I Angelica C. Gatchallan of GSIS La Union Branch; Home Development Mutual Fund Benefits by Marketing Officer Janica Iris C. Trinidad of Pag-IBIG Fund La Union Branch; Know your Benefits by AO V Mary Ann R. Marzan of OPA-HRMU; and Know your Organization by Supervising Administrative Officer Zenaida S. Aspiras of OPA-HRMU.
Provincial Administrator Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III, through Executive Assistant Eleazar Belgica, encouraged the participants to take everything to heart as they learned about their duties, rights, and benefits as PGLU employees. “Public service takes a lot of time, effort, and dedication… every task that we accomplish in the PGLU affects the lives of our KaPROBINSYAnihan,” he said.
Additionally, PA Pacoy emphasized that despite being part of the workforce, the participants are also part of the province, thus deserving of quality service from the organization as well.
This Job Orientation Program cum Gender Sensitivity Training is a testament to the said commitment as the PGLU cultivates a culture of learning and development early on in the employees’ service that is aimed to persevere throughout their journey.
