Wireless Mesh Network technicians install poles and antennas for the province-wide Wireless Mesh High Speed Local Network Project at the Naguilian Commercial Center on October 17, 2018 and Sudipen Gymnasium on October 18, 2018 respectively.

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the Office of the Governor - Information and Communication Technology Unit (OPG-ICTU), adjoined with a third party contractor - PCCraft Computer Technologies, Inc. and coordinated with the 20 Local Government Units of La Union to kick start the installation of a Province-Wide Wireless Mesh High Speed Local Network on September 2018.

The Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) infrastructure is a component of the Public Safety Program on establishing a Network Enabled Emergency Operations Center (NEEOC).

Through the establishment of the WMN the province can have a devoted wireless network that it fully owns and controls. It will provide a dynamic private network that can make the NEEOC and other provincial services operational and accessible real-time across the province.

The mesh technology was preferred over a fiber optic connection because of its better connectivity, faster transmission and low downtime capability while taking consideration the geographic location of the province and it is more cost-effective, reliable and flexible.

This project, through the initiative of Gov. Pacoy Ortega, will be contributory to the attainment of the province’s vision to be the “Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025”. With the WMN acting as support for the NEEOC, the province will be a safe destination equipped with world class safety and security for all its citizens and constituents.
