PGLU Info Officers Upgrade Photojourn Skills

The Office of the Provincial Governor-Media and Public Information Unit (OPG-MPIU), being the information arm of the province, spearheaded the conduct of Governor’s Press Corps (GPC) Skills Development Training on July 1 to 3, 2019 at the Citylight Hotel, Baguio City.

With the aim to level up the documentation and reporting of the Programs, Projects and Activities (PPAs) of the different offices and hospitals under the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), the training centered on smartphone photography and photo captioning. It was attended in by 54 GPC members.

OPG-MPIU Chief Ms. Joanna C. Guerrero commended the GPC members in their commitment in writing news stories. “As a result of your commitment, more stories about the initiatives, programs, projects and activities of the Provincial Government of La Union are being told and being utilized to promote public participation,” she said.

Renowned and multi-awarded photojournalist Mr. Jimmy Domingo, who served as the speaker in the training, discussed about Photojournalism; Smartphone Photography; Photo Captioning; and Photojournalism Ethics. He shared his techniques in capturing the best photos such as including action, interaction and emotion in a photo and the use of leading lines and reflections.

Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III highlighted the authority of GPC members in molding the image of the PGLU to the constituents in his speech delivered by Provincial Information Officer (PIO) Mr. Adamor L. Dagang. “This photojournalism training is indeed timely, because we endeavor to boost our efforts in creating that image of La Union that is governed with the highest sense of integrity, excellence and honor,” he said.

PIO Dagang also served as speaker in the training discussing about Media Relations. He gave the GPC members an idea about the local media partners of PGLU.

GPC members applied their learning in smartphone photography and photo captioning through a Street Photography Immersion as they were dispersed in Session Road, Baguio Cathedral, Baguio Public Market, Burnham Park, and Baguio Universities.

After the training, it is expected that there will be visible improvement in the photo releases of the GPC members stirring better public awareness of the PGLU PPAs.

The GPC is an organization of the Information Officer designates in each department and work unit of the PGLU.
