PGLU implements 4-day workweek amid COVID-19

By: Justin Paul D. Marbella, PIO-MPIU | Date: March 13, 2020

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) will observe the four-day workweek starting Monday, March 16, 2020, as a pro-active measure to prevent spread of the corona virus disease (COVID-19). This, however, exempts PGLU offices providing health services, disaster relief and response, security and other vital services.

Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III issued the Memorandum No. 5 Series 2020 which required PGLU employees to render not less than ten hours of work daily from Monday to Thursday, exclusive of meal periods.

They may report for work anytime from 7am to 8am, and end work anytime between 6pm and 7pm upon completion of the ten-hour workday.

This comes after the intensified national alert against the COVID-19, which has been raised to Code Red Sublevel 2 on March 12 evening.

The adjusted work schedule allows the Provincial General Services Office and Provincial Health Office to administer disinfection in different PGLU offices on Fridays.

Among the PGLU offices expected to render their regular service schedules are the district hospitals in Balaoan, Bacnotan, Naguilian, Caba and Rosario; La Union Medical Center; Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office; the Provincial Jail; and the Security Services Unit.

The four-day workweek shall be implemented until further notice.

As of this writing, La Union remains to be free from COVID-19.
