The Provincial Government of La Union has extended the payment of provincial business taxes, fees and charges, except sand and gravel taxes, imposed by the province until March 31, 2022.
Resolution No. 083-2022 was approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan during its regular session on January 18, 2022 through electronic governance held at the Speaker Pro-Tempore Francisco I. Ortega Provincial Legislative Building and Session Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, Province of La Union.
Authored by Board Member Christian I. Rivera, the resolution provides extension in the payment of provincial taxes, fees and charges due this January 20, 2022 until March 31, 2022.
Due to the Enhanced Community Quarantine/alert levels brought about by COVID-19, businesses are interrupted, and sources of livelihood has been affected, and in order for the taxpayers to avoid long queues in payment centers that may cause the spread of Covid-19, the Provincial Government of La Union had extended the payment period without surcharges or penalties.
BM Rivera said that the extension is provided under section 167 of the Local Government Code of 1991, wherein local taxes, fees and charges shall be paid within the first twenty (20) days of January of each subsequent quarter as the case may be. The Sanggunian concerned may, for justifiable reason or cause, extend the time for payment of such taxes, fees or charges without surcharge or penalties, but only for a period not exceeding six (6) months.
“The measure was made to help taxpayers from the impact caused by the virus. And that the community quarantine has impacted the daily lives of our constituents in the province, affecting their means of income,” Rivera said.
Meanwhile, BM Jennifer Mosuela-Fernandez said that this is a tough time for many people, and the Provincial Government of La Union wants to continue to do everything possible to help taxpayers navigate the unusual conditions related to the pandemic, while also working on important tax administration responsibilities. Even with the new deadline, we urge taxpayers to consider filing as soon as possible, she said.
