Defying capability limits and turning their disabilities in to maximum opportunities, 40 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) from the province of La Union, took part in the livelihood training on Craft of Silk Screen Printing on June 26, 2024 at the Home for the Elderly, Ili Norte, San Juan, La Union.

Spearheaded by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and in partnership with the Pederasyon ng May Kapansanan ng La Union, Inc., the activity ensured that a wide range of perspectives and experiences were brought together to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for the PWDs in La Union.

In his opening message, Mr. Nicholas G. Perlas, Assistant Department Head of the PSWDO, extended appreciation to the PWD community for their commitment to participating in the activities despite their physical challenges.

On behalf of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, Mr. Justo "Tito" Orros III, Executive Assistant IV, delivered the governor’s message where she mentioned that the upcoming Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office will introduce more activities and livelihood trainings to empower PWDs, underscoring the potential positive impact of the training on the participants and the broader community.

Additionally, Gov. Rafy encouraged everyone to embrace their abilities and view them positively.

"Medyo challenging lang po pero sigurado naman po ako na hindi po ibibigay sa atin ng Panginoon kung hindi po natin kaya. Nandito po ang Provincial Government of La Union para tulungan po kayo at sigurado po ako na sa ating pagtutulungan ay makakamit natin ang inaasam po nating resulta," said the Governor.

PMKLI president Mr. Felix Q. Baliclic, Jr. expressed his gratitude to the PGLU for its unwavering support and attention to the needs of the PWD sector. He highlighted that such trainings and activities offered free of charge by the PGLU are helpful for PWDs to pursue self-improvement and livelihood opportunities.

The success of the silkscreen printing livelihood training session marks another step forward in the PGLU’s commitment to creating a more inclusive community.
