PGLU EMPOWERS LOCAL LEGISLATION, CONFERS 1ST PROVINCIAL LOCAL LEGISLATIVE AWARD

In recognition of the exemplary performance of the Local Sanggunian of the province particularly in the field of legislation, the Provincial Government of La Union led by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David conferred the first Provincial Local Legislative Award on November 24, 2023 at Vista la Vita, City of San Fernando, La Union.
11 out of the 20 component Local Government Units (LGUs) competed for the award. Each LGU has undergone a rigorous and objective evaluation process conducted by the Provincial Selection Committee composed of private and government experts in the field of law, legislation, and governance from September 14 to October 12, 2023.
The Sangguniang Bayan of Santol was hailed as Champion while the 11th Sangguniang Bayan of Bangar and the 35th Sangguniang Bayan of Bacnotan placed 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-up respectively. The 3 Sangguniang Bayans also obtained the highest rating score and were accorded the Most Outstanding Sangguniang Bayan Award.
Hon. Francisco Paolo P. Ortega V, Representative of the 1st Congressional District of the province, Vice Gov. Mario Eduardo C. Ortega, and the Honorable Members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) accorded each awardee with SP Resolution No. 1764-2023, plaque, corresponding cash prize, and printers.
Likewise, the other participating legislative bodies from Agoo, Bauang, Burgos, Naguilian, Pugo, San Juan, Rosario, and the City of San Fernando were given a resolution and consolation prizes.
With the theme, “Legislating for Progress: Celebrating the Power of Local Legislation,” the awarding ceremony celebrated the dedication, commitment, and responsiveness of the local legislative bodies to their mandate and in advancing transformative local governance by enacting meaningful legislation and promoting the welfare and development of its communities, municipality, and the province as well.
Vice Gov. Ortega delivered the message of Gov. Rafy wherein she commended the awardees for their outstanding contributions and encouraged them to continue their excellent work in service to their communities and the province as well.
Congressman Ortega V, meanwhile highlighted the role of the legislative body in nation-building, emphasizing its significance in shaping and guiding the trajectory of the country's development. He also offered the services of their office for the needed support and assistance of the local legislative bodies.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Selection Committee chaired by the Provincial Director Reggie R. Colisao of the Department of the Interior and Local Government La Union Provincial Office was also recognized through SP Resolution No. 1769- 2023 and token of appreciation.
The Conferment of the 2023 Provincial Local Legislative Award was a momentous occasion that underscored the importance of recognizing and promoting good governance practices at the local level, fostering the sense of La Union PROBINSYAnihan and commitment among Local Sanggunians to continually raise the bar in public service.
