Emergency responders in the Provincial Government of La Union undergo Training on Psychosocial Support in Emergency Setting on July 31-August 3, 2018 in Baguio City to capacitate them in their roles as frontline emergency response. This is in line with Gov. Pacoy’s aim to have a Disaster Resilient Province by 2022
Emergency responders in the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) took Psychosocial Support Training held in two batches on July 17-20 and July 31-August 3, 2018 in Baguio City, in an effort to capacitate them in their roles as frontliners in emergency response.
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, with the assistance of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, spearheaded the training which involved 41 personnel from the PGLU.
The training provided the emergency responders with the technical know-how in self-care as they immerse themselves in operations during natural and man-made calamities.
Being exposed to great risk of post traumatic disorders, rescuers need more advanced psychological first aid support.
In the training, participants were prepared for trauma resilience and recovery. Discussed also during the training were studies on responders who have undergone resilience training and displayed improvements in depression and stress levels.
The training also highlighted on the importance of caring for the rescuers, and that their post-disaster environments should be safe, calming, with connectedness, self-efficacy and hope.
