In a joint effort to uphold tourism standards and provide the best possible experience for tourists, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through La Union Provincial Tourism Office collaborated with the Department of Tourism — Regional Office 1 (DOT - ROI) to organize a provincewide Mobile Accreditation Caravan. Held from June 19 to 23, 2023, the initiative aimed to ensure compliance with DOT standards among tourism stakeholders.
The accreditation caravan spanned various venues and dates across the province, ensuring widespread coverage. The event kicked off on June 19 at the Dalumpinas Oeste Barangay Hall City of San Fernando, followed by subsequent stops at the BAC Office in San Juan Municipal Hall on June 20, Bauang Tourism Office in Bauang Municipal Hall on June 21, Jose D. Aspiras Civic Center in Agoo on June 22, and finally, Luna Tourism Office in Luna Municipal Hall on June 23. Each of the host Local Government Units actively participated in and supported the activity.
A total of 66 primary and secondary establishments submitted applications for accreditation of their properties. Primary tourism enterprises encompassed travel agencies, tour operators, tourist transport services, accommodation establishments, convention and exhibition organizers, and tourism estate management services. Secondary tourism enterprises included all other tourism-related businesses.
The DOT Accreditation is a recognition granted to enterprises that prioritize quality, safety, and security in their establishments, thereby ensuring tourist satisfaction and a positive overall experience. Accredited enterprises not only receive quality compliance certificates but also gain exposure through free promotions and advertisement on the province's tourism websites and social media platforms. Furthermore, the personnel of these accredited enterprises have privileged access to various skills enhancement training opportunities provided by the DOT and the PGLU.
With revenge tourism as the new tourism trend after the pandemic, PGLU believes that ensuring service quality amongst Tourism Related Establishments will maximize and sustain recovery of the tourism industry thus promoting #LaUnionProbinsiyanihan towards the realization of the province's vision to be Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
