As part of the multiple activities for the Month of the Ocean celebration, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), in partnership with the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), organized the Blue Economy Forum among BS Fisheries Students on May 29, 2024, at the DMMMSU - South La Union Campus College of Fisheries.
With the aim to raise awareness and inspire action among the youth toward ocean conservation, protection, and sustainable management of Philippine coastal and marine resources, the Blue Economy Forum served as a platform to connect a total of 100 student participants with those within the public and private sectors specializing in environmental projects.
Resource speakers from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office La Union, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 1, Blue Economy Lab, and Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation, Inc. presented their respective programs and projects in line with ocean conservation and management. They discussed the program technicalities, shared their experiences, and answered the queries of the students during the open forum portion of the activity.
Through the Blue Economy Forum, the PGLU, led by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, forges more connections with the academe, National Government Agencies, and Non-Government Organizations in order to reach a wider audience in promoting environmental awareness and protection initiatives.
