PGLU Consults with PhilHealth to Strengthen Healthcare Delivery

Strengthening La Union’s healthcare landscape through effective implementation of Universal Health Care (UHC), the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), headed by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David, engaged into a consultation meeting with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) on February 6, 2024 at the PGLU Conference Room. The meeting aims to address issues concerning capitation and policy formulation in bolstering primary healthcare services and facilities in La Union.

Led by Provincial Administrator Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III, the PGLU discussed with PhilHealth President and CEO, Mr. Emmanuel R. Ledesma, Jr. The discussion centered on resolving concerns raised by Municipal Health Offices of the 20 Local Government Units and PGLU Hospitals in La Union particularly on the regular reimbursement of Philhealth claims and the need for updated policies for better UHC facilitation and implementation.

Several key issues were also discussed to enhance healthcare delivery in the province. These include the status of PGLU's request to be a PhilHealth Sandbox Project Implementation Site, the signing of Terms of Partnership between PGLU and PhilHealth, and the inclusion of Animal Bite Category II in reimbursement policies.

Additionally, there were discussions on extending selected case rates for dental procedures and minor surgeries to Primary Care Facilities, removal of subdermal contraceptive implants, and breast mass screening.

Furthermore, recommendations were made regarding Z Benefits for orthopedic implants, Single Period of Confinement, and implementation of Diagnosis Related Group System in hospitals by 2025.

The consultative meeting underscores the La Union PROBINSYAnihan of both the PGLU and PhilHealth to collaborate and address challenges and advancing the delivery of quality healthcare services in La Union, aligning with the goals of UHC implementation.
