Upon the conduct of the Financial Literacy and Tax Awareness Campaign of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) in Sto. Rosario National High School, the student winners of the campaign’s Infomercial Video Contest was awarded on August 5, 2024, at the same venue in San Juan, La Union.

Sto. Rosario National High School was the first school that the PGLU visited for its annual Financial and Tax Literacy Awareness Campaign catered to high schools in the province. It aims to educate the youth regarding taxes and help them be financially literate as they enter adulthood.

Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David shared during the campaign that the PGLU made sure it was easily digestible for students, “sa pagpunta namin sa inyo mismo, magkakaroon kayo ng chance to ask directly sa mga experts natin in case mayroon pa kayong mga hindi masyadong ma-gets…take advantage and truly engage in the meaningful discussions.”

As part of the campaign, an Infomercial Video Contest invited the students to create compelling and educational infomercial videos that would capture the essence of tax education in an engaging and relatable manner. The objective was to make the topic of taxes more appealing and relevant to young minds, allowing them to understand the importance of taxation in societal development and governance.

“Your unique perspective and storytelling abilities have the power to make a significant impact on important societal issues, just like taxation,” said Provincial Treasurer Janet D. Molina as she appreciated the effort of the students.

The winners, namely Ricah Lhyn G. Ganaden; Sunnie Gae F. Pangan; Alexis Andrea G. Corpuz; Mary Ann L. Dao-ayan; John Rey F. Judan; Francis Aaron T. Esperanza; Nelson J. Layda; Mark Jerome D. Lubrica; Johvan Francis U. Limcepcion; Carmela A. Besin; and Kharl Vincent S. Sotelo, took home certificates and a cash incentive of PHP 8,000.00 as recognition of their contributions.

The Financial Literacy and Tax Awareness Campaign has set a high bar for future educational initiatives, proving that when students are given the necessary support and resources, they can easily learn and produce creative outputs. The PGLU plans to visit more schools within the year to conduct the said campaign.
