PGLU CONDUCTS IP DEVELOPMENT CARAVAN

In celebration of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) Week in the province of La Union and the 21st Year Anniversary of the Indigenous People Rights Act (IPRA Law, Republic Act 8371), the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) held a whole day IP Development Caravan on November 8, 2018 in the Municipal Auditorium of San Gabriel, La Union.

The IP Caravan was organized through Gov. Francisco Emmanuel "Pacoy" R. Ortega III’s initiative to provide assistance and support to the programs that empower the IPs and Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs) to ensure their continuing development and growth.
Provincial Tourism Officer Mr. Adamor L. Dagang, representing both Governor Pacoy and Congw. Vini Nola Ortega, asked the IPs to help strengthen their own culture and support all other cultural programs of the PGLU.
Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Member and Chairman of the SP Committee on People’s Organizations, Indigenous People’s Organizations, and Non-Government Organizations Maria Annabelle S. De Guzman, through Dr. Jane T. Flores, discussed the IPRA Law and its benefits to the IPs.
Also present to show their support in the event are President of the Indigineous Peoples Cultural Society of La Union, Inc., Mr. Gegorio Orine; Indigenous People Mandatory Representative (IPMR) for San Gabriel Mr. Florosol Uyaan; and San Gabriel Sangguniang Bayan Member Divina C. Daligues-Velasco.
The IP Development Caravan program was conducted in partnership with ABONO Party-List, Department of Health, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources and was providing numerous activities including medical-dental services, pampering services, orientation on IP-related services of regional line agencies, distribution of assorted seedlings and job assistance desk.
