Said celebration started with a vegetable planting activity at the LUTDC grounds by the preschoolers supervised by school teacher Ms. Lerma L. Navarro. They planted vegetables such as patola, okra, string beans, squash seeds, and camote tops.
After the planting activity, Teacher Lerma, as fondly called by the pupils, reminded the preschoolers to water their plants every school day.
“This planting activity will teach them to be a care takers of our Mother Nature and be a good citizen. The harvested vegetables will be used later for PSWDO’s Supplemental Feeding Program,” Teacher Lerma said.
As part of said celebration, Guest of Honor and Speaker Dr. Josephine Libao talked about Health and Wellness for the children and the important role of parents and guardians in monitoring their child’s health. The theme for this year’s celebration is, "Ugaliing Magtanim, Sapat na Nutrisyon Aanihin!" It speaks about improving the food consumption of Filipinos and advocating self-sufficiency through backyard gardening.
Nutrition Month is a special health awareness campaign pursuant to Presidential Decree 491 or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines. The National Nutrition Council (NNC) leads the launching of the celebration every year with a specific message to the people.
