PGLU Celebrates Women with Disabilities, Champions Inclusivity and Empowerment in Province

Fostering inclusivity, equality, and women empowerment, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, hosted the first Provincial Women with Disability Celebration on April 11, 2024 at the La Union Convention Center, City of San Fernando, La Union.

More than 120 kaPROBINSYAnihan joined the celebration and witnessed the conferment of the Most Influential Women with Disabilities and Crowning of Miss Elyukana Person with Determination. These activities showcased the ability and determination of women, who despite of their condition and special needs, displayed their resilience that has inspired kaPROBINSYAnihan.

For the Most Influential Women with Disabilities, Dr. Janna Danniele C. Tan, a teacher from the City of San Fernando, was hailed as the Provincial Winner. Other awardees were Emma A. Agusto of San Juan, Nila O. Camiguing of Balaoan, Mary Anne B. Sampaga of Luna, and Eva P. Ramos of Sudipen, who secured second to fifth place.

Meanwhile, Miss Elyukana Person with Determination Crown was clinched by Jennifer Briones of Balaoan. Cherry Ann De Guzman from Rosario and Liezel Caoile from Aringay were hailed as the first and second runners-up, respectively.

Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, in her video message, commended the women with disabilities in La Union for being truly inspiring and breaking societal stereotypes.

“Pinatunayan ninyo na tayong mga kababaihan, basta gusto natin, kakayanin natin! Despite differences in terms of physical capabilities, cultural backgrounds, and economic status, women of La Union continue to break barriers, shatter stereotypes, and are capable of achieving greatness, making significant contributions to our province,” the Governor’s message.

Also present during the Provincial Women with Disability Celebration were Hon. Maria Annabelle S. De Guzman, Elma Marie Quinagoran who represented Hon. Maria Rosario Eufrosina P. Nisce, and Ralph Sison representing Hon. Pablo C. Ortega.

With the success of the activity that served as a platform to raise awareness and inclusivity of people with disabilities, the PGLU will continue to enjoin people in the call for La Union PROBINSYAnihan especially in advocating equal rights and opportunities for all for a more inclusive, supportive, and PWD-friendly province.
