PGLU CELEBRATES DON JOAQUIN ORTEGA'S LIFE AND MEMORY

LONG LIVE, DON JOAQUIN! 1st District Board Member Jonathan Justo “Jayjay” A. Orros reads Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” Ortega III’s message during the 75th death anniversary and celebration of Don Joaquin “Joaquino”Ortega’s life and memory at the Provincial Capitol Lobby, City of San Fernando, La Union on May 31, 2018. Don Joaquin was La Union’s first elected Governor (1901-1904) in August 15, 1901.

Celebrating the 75th death anniversary of first elected Governor of the Province, Don Joaquin “Joaquino” Ortega (1901-1904), the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) honored him and paid homage to “the man who started it all” with a program held at the Provincial Capitol Lobby, City of San Fernando on May 31, 2018.

In the said event, 1st District Board Member Jonathan Justo “Jayjay” A. Orros read Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” Ortega III’s message thanking Dr. Maria Luz Ortega-Bolong and Mrs. Maria Nila Ortega-Arjel for their passion and commitment for keeping the memory of Don Joaquin as well as for keeping his spirit alive and for championing his cause.

Gov. Pacoy described his Lolo Joaquin not only as the patriarch of the Ortega Family in La Union, but also as a great family man whom many of them succeeded following their Lolo Joaquin’s footsteps in serving the public. This is where they have inherited their Love for La Union a love that has transcended a hundred years continuing to burn bright and grow stronger, sparked by the heart and passion of their Lolo Joaquin which became the hallmark of their service to the people of the province.

Don Joaquin Ortega was appointed as the first civilian governor of La Union almost 120 years ago. He was elected by the people on August 15, 1901. The statue of Don Joaquin has been in Provincial Capitol for two years and will be moved again, to the Joaquin-Francisca Ortega Ancestral Home at P. Burgos, City of San Fernando, La Union.
