Marking the annual celebration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT), the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), led by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, conducted several activities aimed at strengthening the province’s initiatives to ensure a drug-free, safe, and orderly community while clamoring for stronger La Union PROBINSYAnihan.
On June 24, 2024, the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and the La Union Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) held their 2nd Quarter Joint Meeting via video conferencing. Vice Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega, Acting Governor and Chairperson, presided over the meeting, reaffirming that La Union remains generally peaceful due to its various Peace, Order and Public Safety (POPS) initiatives.
During the meeting, the Proposed CY 2025 Annual Investment Plan for POPS was presented and approved by the council. Additionally, the CY 2024 First Semester Anti-Criminality and Anti-illegal Drug Accomplishment Reports were discussed.
Anti-illegal drug accomplishments were also reported, highlighting that out of 576 barangays in La Union, only 29 (5.03%) are yet to be drug-cleared. Updates on the POC and ADAC Performance Audit and Awards, the Buhay Ingatan, Droga'y Ayawan Program, and the IDADAIT Celebration, along with the First Semester POC-ADAC Secretariat Report, were also presented during the meeting.
Additionally, the PGLU community showcased their La Union PROBINSYAnihan spirit as government officials, department heads, and employees recited the Anti-Illegal Drug Campaign Pledge of Commitment during the first Monday Flag Raising on July 1, 2024, at the Capitol Grounds, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The PGLU also actively participated in spreading knowledge about anti-illegal drugs, supporting prevention initiatives, and working towards a future free from the harms of drug abuse. Activities included the Preventive Drug Education Program, Special Drug Education Center, and Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program.
With the strengthened La Union PROBINSYAnihan of the people and stakeholders, PGLU vows to be more proactive in combating drugs and maintaining peace and order in the province.
