PGLU ATTENDS MICE 101 FORUM

Department of Tourism – Region 1 Director Martin S. Valera gives his Welcome Message to the participants of the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) 101 Forum organized by the Department of Tourism – Region 1 on June 20, 2019 at the Java Hotel, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. The forum was designed to familiarize tourism stakeholders on the MICE industry and to share strategies on how to become a MICE destination. Participants were DOT-accredited accommodation establishments and Local Government Units from Region 1.

With the aim to develop a culture of inclusion and empowerment in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) Industry, representatives from the Provincial Information Office – Tourism Operations Unit and Office of the Governor – Local Economic Enterprise and Investment Promotions Unit were sent by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III for the MICE 101 Forum organized by the Department of Tourism – Region 1 (DOT-RO1) on June 20, 2019 at the Java Hotel, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

The forum which was attended in by around 50 participants from DOT-accredited accommodation establishments and Local Government Units in the region focused on analyzing the global trends and opportunities in the Meetings and Business Events industry.

The delegation from La Union was composed of six delegates including Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Arthur S. Cortez, Jr., Investment Promotions Officer Bryan Rivera together with the Tourism Officers of the City of San Fernando and Municipalities of Agoo, Bauang and San Juan, La Union.

In his message during the Opening Program, DOT-RO1 Director Martin S. Valera said that the increasing demand for conferences in recent years in the Ilocos Region have a great potential for specialized segment of the tourism market.

Topics discussed were Overview of MICE 101; Introduction to the Philippine MICE Roadmap 2030 and Promoting Philippines as a MICE Destination; MICE Resources in Ilocos Region; Exhibitions and Events and Establishing Local MICE Organization; Meetings and Conventions; and Global Trends in MICE and Incentive Travel.

The seminar is designed to familiarize tourism stakeholders on the MICE industry and share strategies on how to become a MICE destination as well as to tap local tourism stakeholders to be active MICE organizers and service providers.

Through the forum, La Union delegates were able to provide a platform in coming together to assess the province’s readiness for MICE. Moreover, it is hoped that this will inspire tourism stakeholders to be ready in making Ilocos Region a real MICE destination.
