PGLU and DTI Join Forces to Address Price Issues in La Union

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the Local Economic Enterprise & Investment Promotions Unit (LEEIPU), and the Department of Trade & Industry - La Union (DTI-La Union) recently convened the La Union Price Coordinating Council (LUPCC) for their First Semester Meeting on June 19, 2023. The meeting, held at the BAC Conference Room in the Provincial Capitol Building, aimed to address price concerns and coordinate efforts to ensure fair pricing in the province. The event brought together key stakeholders involved in price coordination including, including representatives from the provincial government, DTI-La Union, DOH-RO I, DA-RO I, DOJ-RPO I, LTO, PAFC-La Union and Assosasyon iti Manggalap ken Mannalon.
Led by Provincial Administrator Ms. Agnes Grace A. Cargamento and DTI-La Union Provincial Director Merlie D. The meeting covered topics related to price regulation. Ms. Angela Grace C. Peralta, Assistant Department Head of the Local Economic Enterprise & Investment Promotions Unit (LEEIPU), provided an overview of the Legal Bases of the LUPCC and the endorsement process for sectoral representatives. This was followed by a presentation from Mr. Joey De la Cruz, Senior Trade-Industry Development Specialist at DTI-La Union, who refreshed participants' understanding of Republic Act No. 7581 ot Price Act.
During the meeting, Ms. Farida D. Espina, a Pharmacist from the Department of Health - Regional Office I (DOH-RO I), shared insights on the Electronic Drug Price Monitoring System. This system, which operates at both the regional and national levels, allows for the monitoring and registration of drug outlets, ensuring transparency and accountability in the pricing of drugs and medicines.
Dr. Domingo Bobby Calub, the OIC Provincial Veterinarian, presented on the Livestock and Its By-Products Marketing and Price Stabilization Program. This program focuses on strategies to stabilize prices and ensure fair trade practices in the livestock industry.
Director Membrere reiterated the importance of consumer protection and emphasized that the ultimate goal is to provide consumers with more choices at reasonable prices.
The meeting of the La Union Price Coordinating Council is a proactive collaboration of all participating agencies in the spirit of #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan to take an action on monitoring price movement and tackle issues and concerns on impeding increase of rice and other basic commodities. The plan for the reactivation of LUPCC is very vital on interventions to settle problems on trade and to uphold the protection of consumer welfare in the province.
